Sure we all go to IPR and we love the classes we have here.  It’s not that we don’t like school, we absolutely love it here! But, everyone looks like they NEED this Spring Break.  I can not wait until it’s here.  Two weeks of rest and relaxation here I come.  If anyone is going anywhere interesting, or even just back home to the family, leave a comment with some plans..

Flickr – I like how you can choose to share all of your photos with everyone or just with a select few.  You can also upload pictures just as storage, where only you can access them and no one else.  In my opinion, if there are photos that you want only you to see, I wouldn’t even upload them to the internet.

Twitter – So Twitter uses cookies for advertising, and they also use Google Analytics to maximize their advertising efficiency.  They also use your full name publicly, but it’s just so that your anme will pop up in the search engine, otherwise their privacy is a lot like Facebook.

Vimeo – Pretty much the same as Twitter, like using cookies and what not to get their advertising done right, They keep everything else privte obviously like your passwords and email address.  I guess that it kind of sucks that they both use a lot of cookies because we don;t like advertising in the first place so now we get to see more of it.  Plus cookies take up hard disk space and it can build up and get nasty.

Youtube – Youtube lets you view videos if you are not a member, but if you want to upload videos and comment on videos you have to sign up.  They also use the advertising strategy, they also use certain tags in videos to come up with a recommended video page for their users, so that you can watch a lot of great videos that are about the stuff you like.

The pros for these websites is that a lot of your personal information is kept secret, like your email address.

But most of the cons for me are that they just overload you with advertising and you cant really get it to go away.  Also, the cookies get really annoying because you have to keep deleting them off of your hard disk.

My name is Jeff Magnuson and I am in my 3rd quarter here at IPR.  I have been working on a few projects which are mostly just my midterm projects, but I have done a few other things in my free time.  I can’t really say I have recorded a band or anything yet, most of my friends don’t play instruments or aren’t in any bands, so I am not as fortunate with all the connections that most people have.  I am definitely into the recording side of things, I am a lot more of a technical person and like to deal with that side of things.  I recently completed my Mash-Up project for the AP-200 course, I have posted it on my blog and everyone should take a listen.  I got 92% on it, and Steve Hodge listened to it twice in a row in class, he thought it was awesome. I look forward to my next couple of quarters at IPR and hope to learn as much as possible about recording and mixing.  I hope to find an internship for the summer so I will have an excuse for not finding another job.  If anyone ever needs an assistant engineer or someone to just run the control room haha, I am available most of the time. I will post some of my other projects online in good time when I can figure this stuff out.

In today’s world Auto-Tune can make almost anyone sound good and in key.  How can we sort the real from the fake? I think that it kind of does take a little bit away from an artist.  If you can make anyone sound good it is kind of like what is the point?  If you can’t sound this good live though, most people can see through the B.S. and realize it’s not true artistry. Leave a comment about what you think.

Google began in January 1996, as a research project by Larry Page, who was soon joined by Sergey Brin, when they were both PhD students at Stanford University in California.  They hypothesized that a search engine that analyzed the relationships between websites would produce better ranking of results than existing techniques, which ranked results according to the number of times the search term appeared on a page. Their search engine was originally nicknamed “BackRub” because the system checked backlinks to estimate the importance of a site.

Currently signed with Epitaph records this four man band from Las Vegas, Nevada is somewhat of a diamond in the rough.  This American pop rock band is widely unknown, but should be known.  Their creative songs and interesting lyrical content gives the listener a new sensation. Something different to listen to this day in age.  Their most recent album It’s Only Natural was released June 23, 2009 and was a fantastic album.  I encourage anyone to post what they think of this band, and if you haven’t heard of them check them out! I think you will be in fora nice surprise.
